1979 Pontiac Trans Am10th Anniversary Edition TA 6.6 400ci four speed and one of only 1,817 produced! This is a stunning example with only 54,058 miles with the original engine and four speed transmission!
Model year 1979 marked the 10th Anniversary of Pontiac's instantly recognizable Trans Am, and the manufacturer decided to celebrate that milestone big with a commemorative Firebird. The 10th Anniversary Trans Am was officially priced at around $10,600, with the only options being a choice of powertrains—the standard Oldsmobile-sourced 403 CI V-8 making 185 HP and bolted to a Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission, or the Pontiac 400 CI V-8 (of which a handful were left from the previous year's production) mated to a 4-speed manual BorgWarner Super T10.
All 10th Anniversary Trans Ams came in Platinum Silver with Charcoal accents and red/black striping, a “Screaming Chicken” hood decal that flowed onto the top of the fenders, mirrored T-tops and "Turbo Alloy" wheels that were designed by John Schinella and made by Appliance Industries.
Essentially leaving the factory fully loaded, they were equipped with power 4-wheel disc brakes, power windows and remote trunk release. It also featured an exclusive silver-upholstered interior (reportedly left over from Chevrolet's '78 Corvette pace car effort) with supple leather seating surfaces and vinyl door panels, embroidered Firebirds on the door panels and rear seat, plus a leather-wrapped Formula steering wheel. Also included was the heavy-duty WS6 handling package, blacked-out tail lamps, red cockpit-style illuminated gauges and upgraded ETR AM/FM stereo with 8-track player.
This 10th Anniversary model has only accrued 54,058 miles on the clock, and it still carries its matching-numbers W72 400 CI Pontiac V-8 engine producing a factory rated 220 HP, meaning it is also one of only 1,817 produced with the 400 CI V-8, 4-speed and 3.23 differential combination.
These cars were rare when they were new with only 1,817 produced for the world and even more desirable today!
