Designed by Bob Gregorie, the Continental shared many characteristics of the Lincoln-Zephyr including the legendary flathead V12 engine. Production temporarily halted in 1942 when the U.S. entered World War II. Continental production would resume in 1946 with some styling updates. The death of Edsel Ford in 1943 resulted in a restructuring of Ford’s corporate management who deemed the design as too pre-war which caused production to complete cease by 1948. The Continental name would not reappear until 1955 with the Continental Mark II, although the first generation Continentals remain highly prized among collector car circles. The first generation cars are one of the few post-war models to be recognized by the Classic Car Club of America as a “full classic” and, to date, remains the last American V12-powered production automobile. Only 452 Continental Convertibles were assembled during the final production year of 1948, making complete, running examples highly sought-after by collectors today. The 1948 Lincoln Continental Convertible featured here is finished in stunning Moss Green with an impeccably kept Camel tan leather interior. This magnificent motorcar was recently released from over 20 years of collector ownership. We are proud to offer this extremely rare and sought-after market classic 1948 Lincoln Continental Convertible to the most sophisticated collector, investor or enthusiasts who understands and appreciates the rarity of this marque. 1948 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL CONVERTIBLE 8H181421 * Restoration started 14 years ago with body and paint * Engine was completely rebuilt and bored .30 over * Solid guides kit for intake and exhaust valves * New spring and retainers * Reground camshaft and replaced hydraulic lifters * Replaced crankshaft with rear main seal kit * New connection rod bearings and main bearings * 12 new pistons and rings from Egge * Rebuilt distributor and coils by Jake Fleming * Replaced points and condenser * New plugs and wires * High pressure / High volume oil pump * Connecting rods checked and good * Flywheel resurfaced * New pilot bearing ,clutch disc , pressure plate and throw out bearing. * New bearings for clutch linkages * Transmission completely rebuilt with new bearings and gears * Overdrive was gone through/ relay & solenoids were rebuilt * All small electrical parts including governor were replaced * Front suspension completely rebuilt or replaced including front spring * New king pins and bushings along with new tie rod ends * New front axle bearings and seals / rear spring replaced * Shock absorbers & steering box were rebuilt * Differential was taken out: bearings , ring and pinion were all checked blued and back lash was set * Replaced axle tube seals with neoprene seals * New wheel bearings packed with synthetic grease * All wheel cylinders changed * New master cylinder and drums turned * New shoes were arced to size drums * Rear drums we
